First Session Expectation
At the first session, you can expect us to chat about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to accomplish during sessions. We’ll talk about ways we can help you and explore if our therapeutic approach is right for you. There will be forms to review and payment methods discussed. Subsequent sessions will delve into whatever you’re struggling with.
How Often Will I have Session?
Your therapist will work with you to identify the appropriate frequency for sessions depending on your needs and therapy goals. Note: New clients cannot be seen on a monthly basis. This does not give your therapist enough time to get to know you, work towards your goals, and assess for progress. As things improve, however, you may check in and see if your therapist recommends monthly sessions and if they offer them.
How long will I be in therapy?
Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place.
What if I Don't Like my Therapist?
We know choosing a therapist is a highly personal decision and sometimes you just don’t connect. We encourage you to give your therapist a few sessions to see if you click but, if not, feel free to let them know. You’re also welcome to call our office for a reassignment. Also, if there’s ever a point where you have an issue or complaint, please call our office.
Requests for Letters/Accommodations
We do not guarantee that they will fulfill requests for letters or accommodations. This includes but is not limited to treatment summaries, disability paperwork, and work accommodations. This will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and only after the client has attended enough sessions where the therapist has a full understanding of the client’s mental health needs. In addition, we do not write letters for emotional support animals, child custody evaluations or get involved in legal matters.
What if I need to cancel my appointment day of? Or if I miss my appointment?
It is required that you provide 24 hours advance notice of cancellation to be released from the contract for your therapist’s time and services of preparation for your session. This means that if an appointment is scheduled for 3:00 pm on a Tuesday, notice must be given by 3:00 pm on Monday at the absolute latest. Note that if your appointment is on a Monday, the cancellation needs to be provided no later than the prior Friday, by your appointment time, to be considered proper 24-hour notice. You can cancel your appointment by calling the office or emailing the office.
If you fail to cancel your appointment more than 24 hours in advance, you will be charged a Late Cancellation Fee for your appointment time.
Although we may send you text or email reminders about upcoming appointments, this is done as a courtesy and only if you consent to receive such communications by providing us with your email address and cell number. It remains your sole responsibility to keep track of and timely attend all scheduled therapy appointments, whether or not you receive the text or email reminder. It is your responsibility to inform the office if your phone number or email has changed.
The only exception to this cancellation policy is in the event of a serious or contagious illness or emergency. We offer one grace for these purpose. Some examples of emergencies are car accidents, deaths in the family or extreme illness. Work issues do not constitute emergencies. This cancellation policy also applies even if missing the appointment was an unintentional act. In the event of prohibitive weather, we can conduct the session on the phone or video (individual counseling).
You should note that insurance companies do not reimburse for missed appointments and late cancellations.

Why do you ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice for cancellations?
The client is expected to attend each scheduled session on time. A cancelled or delayed appointment delays our work and can negatively impact other clients. Since your appointments involve the reservation of time specifically for you, and out of respect for your therapist and our other clients, a minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required for rescheduling or canceling an appointment. We appreciate more than 24-hour notice when possible, as we can then make that time available to other clients. Therefore, if you should know before the required 24-hour notice that you will not be able to attend our session, PLEASE, PLEASE call the office, or email so that we have time to fill your slot and can put another client in your space that may need it. The more time, the better for the therapist and other clients who are in need.
A late cancel or no-show appointment hurts at least three people: you, your therapist, and another client who could have potentially utilized your time slot. Therapy sessions are scheduled in advance and are a time reserved exclusively for our clients. When a session is cancelled without adequate notice, we are unable to fill this time slot by offering it to another current client, a client on the wait list, or a client with a clinical emergency.

What if I am late to my appointment?
Due to the length of time provided for each appointment, it is critical that you arrive on time for your appointments. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, we will have no choice but to reschedule your appointment and you will be responsible for the full session fee of a no show. To avoid paying no show fees, we require at least twenty-four (24) hours’ notice for all cancellations (as described above).
Online Therapy
We offer online sessions at the same rate as our in-office sessions. We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video service and the same practice/privacy policies apply. Online sessions are not appropriate for everyone but if interested, please contact our office and we’ll help you determine if it’s a good fit for you.
Please note that you must be in the state of Utah to receive these services, per state law. We offer online sessions at the same rate as our in-office sessions. Online therapy has been shown to be just as effective as in-office therapy and offers many benefits such as convenience for your schedule, being in your own environment, and, let’s be honest, wearing sweatpants.

Insurance
Insurance can be beneficial in many ways however, in mental health, insurance can also be problematic to your treatment. Insurance companies require that we assign you a medical diagnosis and may request copies of the session notes. They will also often dictate how many sessions you get and may even only cover certain approaches or diagnoses. In addition, it is not uncommon for insurance plans to have a high deductible or charge you a specialist co-pay**. Paying out of pocket sounds scary but after the deductible and co-pay, it may be the same or cheaper to pay out of pocket. Our goal is to provide you with a holistic, personalized experience that will benefit you long-term; something that is not always possible with insurance companies.
We cannot bill to and we are not in network with any Medicare & Medicaid plans at this time, even if they are associated with a company we are in network with, or if you have secondary insurance with a company we are in network with.
As a reminder our therapists are their own private practice and do not all take the same insurance. Please double check with your insurance before scheduling.
We are willing to provide documentation for reimbursement through your insurance company as an out-of-network provider. Each insurance company handles this differently and while we are happy to provide whatever documentation your insurance company may need, you will need to ensure you are aware of your insurance company’s process for reimbursement.
We understand that finances may be a factor so we are happy to accept the following forms of payment:
